Six Degree Cafe
Located at Black Mountain School Six Degree’s café is the perfect spot to peruse local art and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. Designed to be a training facility for students with disabilities, a gallery to showcase student’s artworks and meeting place for the community, the café provides students with life skills for the future.
Previously a classroom, the space was long and narrow and required careful spatial planning to ensure the café flowed easily and safely for all. To achieve the desired industrial look, a combination of timbers, rustic flooring, charcoal walls and ceilings along with bright pops of colour were used throughout the café. The marine plywood shelving with sliding blackboard panels behind the coffee counter provide much needed storage and menu display, whilst adding to the industrial vibe.
With a small space and tight budget, a community of local trades and regular suppliers came together to create a space which is invaluable to the school’s community.
